The reason being, compost can be added to soil to help your plants grow. Plus, it’ll help cut down on waste since you can use certain food scraps in your compost pile.

Composting also helps to enrich the soil, which can aid in retaining moisture, as well as preventing plant diseases and pests. It even reduces methane emissions that come from landfills and will ultimately help in lowering your carbon footprint. So, you get to organically grow healthy plants at home and reduce your family’s waste, while also helping the environment to flourish.

  1. Grow Your Own Vegetables & Herbs

Another fantastic idea is to start growing your own vegetables and herbs. It’s even more reason to start composting at the same time! This was something that we turned into a family activity. It taught our kids about the value of hard work and how our produce is grown.

One of the main benefits to having your own vegetable/herb garden is that you don’t have to worry about your produce being treated with mystery pesticides. After all, pesticides can contaminate our soil as well as other vegetation. It can even be harmful to other animals and insects, not to mention it’s not great for your body either.

To avoid making matters worse, your best bet is to avoid buying foods that come inside too much wasteful packaging, especially if it’s not able to be recycled. Try supporting companies that make smart choices with their packing materials and recycle or reuse everything that you can.
