Milia are small white bumps that are commonly found on the nose, cheeks, and around or under the eyes. These are also common among newborns but can also occur in children and adults. For newborns, milia will go away after a few weeks. For adults, however, they may take a few months and can even take years.

Milia are also called milk spots and are formed when keratin, a protein found in the skin, hair, and nails, becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin. This will form tiny cysts but is harmless and is not a serious health risk. There is no known reason for what causes milia among newborns. For children and adults, milia will appear if the skin has experienced some damage such as blistering skin conditions and injuries, burns, skin resurfacing procedures, long-term use of steroid creams, and prolonged sun damage.

Although they are not harmful, they may cause discomfort and can be annoying. If you want to know how to remove milia the natural way, try these three remedies.

Sugar scrub. A sugar scrub will help get rid of your milia and act as a skin exfoliant as well. It’s easy to make and requires only a few ingredients, most of which you already have on hand. Grab a lemon and olive oil and you’re on your way to softer and brighter skin. To do a sugar scrub, juice around a quarter to half a lemon and mix with two tablespoons of sugar and one teaspoon of olive oil. Scrub this on your skin for a few minutes and leave it there for 20 minutes more. When 20 minutes is over, rinse and then repeat twice a week until the symptoms have cleared up.

Honey. This is another natural ingredient that has a lot of health benefits and also serves as a skin exfoliant. To achieve best results, use raw, organic honey. Spread it on your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse and repeat every day. The good thing about using honey is that it doesn’t dry out your skin and that is why you can apply it every day. Another remedy would be adding oatmeal and sugar to the honey and creating your own facial scrub.

Facial sauna. A facial sauna or a facial steam bath treats your milia and leaves you feeling clean and fresh. Hot water opens up your pores and feels good on your skin as well. It’s easy and fuss free. You simply need a clean face towel that has been soaked in hot water. Wring out the excess water and place the towel on your face. Leave it there for a few minutes before removing. Do this two or three times and repeat every day. You can also go for a steam bath and position your face over a sink or basin with hot water. Steam your face for at least 10 minutes and repeat twice a day.

These three natural remedies are easy and can help remove milia. They don’t cost much and don’t require a lot of effort in terms of preparation. And the bonus is, at the end of the day, you feel good and feel refreshed.
