Bladder Leakage During Pregnancy

Even though it's not talked about all that often, bladder leakage during pregnancy is totally normal. I didn't really experience it during my first pregnancy, but I definitely did during my second and third pregnancies! Any time I laughed, sneezed, or coughed, all bets were off. I'd pee a little, get annoyed, and stomp off to change.

I was particularly miserable during my second pregnancy. I actually got Pertussis (Whooping Cough) while I was pregnant. I coughed all the time for months! Needless to say, I was changing my clothes pretty often. I was not a happy mama. But still... I didn't really do anything to solve the problem. I laugh at my stubborn self now... I could have just changed my attitude to be so much more comfortable!

What made my situation so uncomfortable is that I was so embarrassed about what I was going through. I thought I was just gross and I was too ashamed to get what I needed to be comfortable. I feel really silly about that now, because you know what? If I were to experience the exact same thing again, I would have a totally different perspective.

Bladder leakage during pregnancy is not an anomaly. I've talked about my experience a lot with other moms and learned that so many women experience it! It's pretty normal, especially for women who have had multiple pregnancies.

Even more recently, I've learned that it's actually pretty normal for people in general.

Check out these facts:

  • More people with bladder leakage are in their 20’s than their 80’s
  • The average age of someone with bladder leakage is only 52!
  • More people with bladder leakage are 50 or younger than 60 or older!
  • 1 in 3 women experience bladder leakage.

It's just not a big deal!

If I become pregnant again or experience bladder leakage during any other time, you better believe that I will be racing to the store to grab myself some Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs! No more embarassment fom me!

It's just a different kind of underwear that helps people who experience bladder leakage feel more comfortable. As part of their #Underawareness campaign, Depend is working to get rid of the stigma associated with bladder leakage. Going on year 2 now, I have no doubt they'll succeed!

If you experience bladder leakage, pregnant or not, you can get a FREE sample of Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs here.
