In 2017, many celebrities had babies, and much more are expecting in 2018 as well. It is fascinating to read about - not so much about their births, but the names they used for their babies. You would expect that celebrities would be more inclined to use strange and incredibly unique names. However, even though a lot of that is the truth, it's not always the case. Let's take a look at some examples of celebrities that had babies in 2017, and what they named them. While boho baby names are still an upward trend, you will be surprised to see how many names that were chosen by these celebrities are not all that unique. Let's go down the list:
Brooklyn Decker and Andy Roddick had a baby in 2017, and named their baby Stevie. Stevie is usually short for Stephen or Stephanie (like it is for Stevie Nicks, whose given name is actually Stephanie!). However, Stevie is an independent name in this case.
Sebastian and Lana Maniscalco had a daughter last year and named her Serafina Simone, which is absolutely beautiful.
Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana had their baby in January of last year. Remarkably, she was 50 years old when she gave birth (donor eggs perhaps?)! They named their daughter Eissa, which is quite unusual.
Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross had a son last January as well and named him Lars Gerard, which is quite interesting. Lars is Scandinavian for Lawrence. It has a neat ring to it.
Molly Sims and Scott Stuber had a son last January and named him Grey Douglas. We all know that color names are on the rise, an example being Beyonce and JAY-Z's 6-year-old daughter, named Blue Ivy.
In January, Geri Halliwell and Christian Horner had a son and named him Montague George Hector which has a Shakespearean touch to it given the name Montague (Romeo and Juliet anyone?).
Last Valentine's Day (awww!), Laura Benanti and Patrick Brown had their daughter, Ella Rose which is a fitting name for a baby to be born on that day!
Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego had a baby named Zen, which is fitting for the New Age movement since more and more people are into that!
Last February, Amber Tamblyn and David Cross had a baby girl named Marlow Alice, which has a nice ring to it. Alice is one of the top 20 names for girls and in this case, it was used as a middle name.
Also in February, Lauren Manzo and Vito Scalia had a daughter who they named Marchesa Anna, and they are calling her Markie for short. It is surely an unusual name that you would expect a celebrity to use. It has an Italian ring to it, like their mom and dad.
In March, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott had a son and named him Beau Dean, which is incredibly classy.
Also in March, Benedict and Sophie Cumberbatch had a son who they named Hal Auden. No, not Sherlock! The name Hal is not as common nowadays, but it obviously still used.
Sutton Foster and Ted Griffin had a daughter in March and named her Emily Dale, and Emily is in the top 20 list of girl names, from last year.
AJ and Rochelle McClean named their baby that they had last March, Lyric Dean, which is very classy and quite different at the same time.
Also last March, Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole named their baby Bear, which received a lot of criticism from the public since naming your kids after animals will be a target for ridicule and bullies. However, if more kids are named Bear in the future, the risk of being made fun of will be less.
Dane DeHaan and Anna Wood named their daughter that they had in April, Bowie Rose. Bowie is being used more among people especially who have always been David Bowie fans.
Jimmy and Molly Kimmel had their son last April named William John, who they call Billy. A name like that is a name that would have been used for boys born in English speaking countries over centuries so there is nothing unusual about that. They likely did not want to use anything unique considering they have a daughter who is named Jane, which again is a very old English name. Billy was born with a heart condition as the fans know, and thankfully the little guy is doing well after his surgeries. We’ll keep rooting the little guy!
Last May, Mia Tyler and Dan Halen gave birth to a son who they named Axton Joseph. Joseph of course is a Biblical name so there is nothing unusual about that, but many people have not heard of Axton before his arrival. Add a mix of old and new for uniqueness!
Also in May, Holly Williams and Chris Coleman had a daughter named Arlo Gale, which is certainly different since Arlo is a male name which was used for a girl. This is increasingly becoming the trend nowadays.
Last June was a month for having twins because George and Amal Clooney had boy/girl twins who they named Ella and Alexander.
And then, Beyonce and Jay-Z also had boy/girl twins in June, and they were named Rumi and Sir. A little different than the traditionally classier named Clooney twins.
Lauren Conrad and William Tell had a son last July named Liam James, and both names are in the top 20 for boys.
In August, Priscilla Chang and Mark Zuckerberg had a daughter who they named August, after the month she was born!
Last December Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale had a son who they named Rafa which is incredibly unusual, but it may rise in popularity if others are intrigued by the name, and start using it for their sons or even daughters.
And finally, towards the end of the year, Nicky Hilton and James Rothschild gave birth to a daughter who they named Teddy Marilyn. Teddy is not short for Theodora, Teddy is her independent name which is certainly not usual for girls, but this may create a trend!
There were plenty of other celebrities that had babies last year, but these examples are ones that stick to people's minds. Therefore, if you are expecting, or know someone who is, here are a group of names that may be inspiring!

These are some great names. When we do have kids I really want something unique but nothing that will lead to teasing or bullying.
