Making my own laundry detergent was one of the first DIY projects that became a regular part of my routine – I was so satisfied to wash a load of clothes with it for the first time and see that they actually came out clean.
I was even more excited to be washing clothes for pennies on the dollar compared to the cost of store-bought laundry soap!
Then I started learning about how much of our mainstream food and household products are filled with toxic additives. Food dyes in “healthy” snacks? Phthalates in that “fresh scent?”
I committed to using safer ingredients in the things I made and checking them more thoroughly in those I bought. That meant the soap I'd been using in my laundry detergent had to go.
Enter castile soap - it's all natural and works beautifully in this dry lavender laundry soap recipe I created.
