If you're not quite on track to meet the health goals you set for this year, you might be tempted to forget the whole thing until the New Year rolls around again - don't! Any time can be a great fresh start to improve your health if you decide you want it to be.
The key to improving your health in a lasting way is to make small changes, one or two at a time, until they become habit - and then move on to the next one. Here are ten simple ways to improve your health by the end of this year.
Don't wait til the New Year to overhaul your health. These small changes can help you get on the right track!

Take a Walk

Every day for at least fifteen minutes, get outside and take a walk. Whether you're walking for the scenery, to the corner store, or to the bank, walking each day will improve circulation, aid in weight loss, and lower cholesterol.

Drink More Water

The majority of Americans go about in a state of constant dehydration, which also can result in overeating. Make sure to drink water often throughout the day; drink at least one glass at each meal, and drink between meals and snacks. If you tend to forget, invest in a reusable water bottle and keep it handy.

Reduce Sugar

Sugar is the main culprit of weight gain and can cause numerous health problems, including high blood pressure and diabetes. Pay careful attention to how much sugar you eat, and reduce your sugar intake - not just be cutting back on candy and other sweets, but by ensuring that your main staples - like bread, yogurt, and other foods - don't have sugar and high fructose corn syrup added.

Limit Your Dairy

Too much dairy can raise your cholesterol, which can in turn cause high blood pressure and heart disease. Cut back on cheese and yogurt, and try dairy alternatives such as almond, soy, and coconut. When you do eat regular dairy, try to source organic and cultured options for the most health benefits.

Consume Less Caffeine

Coffee certainly has health benefits, but too much caffeine can interfere with your sleep - key to good health. Limit yourself to two cups per day if you're a coffee drinker, and try to avoid caffeine after 4pm to ensure proper rest.

Get More Sleep

Sleep boosts immune system response and cell regeneration. Get at least eight hours a night. If you suffer from insomnia, talk to your doctor about appropriate treatment.

Unplug

Most people get a lot of screen time every day, between work and personal communication. Spend a few hours each day away from all screens - laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Go for a walk, read, craft something - anything that gets you away from screened devices.

Do Some Yoga

Yoga can help reduce the body's stress response and tone and define muscles. An effective aid for weight loss, try taking a class or investing in a few at-home videos.

Eat More Fruit

Fruit is rich in fiber and nutrients, and it can also alleviate sugar cravings if you're trying to reduce sugar. The next time you crave sweets, reach for some of "nature's candy" instead - grapes, bananas, berries, or pears.

Increase Fiber Intake

High fiber intake improves digestive tract performance and aids in weight loss. Increase your fiber intake by eating oats, beans, fruit, nuts, and vegetables.

Each of these habits over time will result in a healthier body and mind. By taking on some of these habits, you'll help improve your health for months and years to come.

Don't wait til the New Year to improve your health. These small changes can help you get on the right track!

Great advice. It's easy to forget that health is a long term commitment. Making a change for the better is always good.
