Natural Remedies for the Cold + Flu Season

posted in: Holistic Wellness | 1

There is some very interesting research going on around why colds and flu infections spike during the fall and winter. There are several theories about why that is – the two most popular are 1.) drier air allows the viruses to survive in the air longer and 2.) people are inside and in closer contact when it's cold outside.

I've also been considering:

  1. More stress for everyone – the 4th quarter is busy, school stresses come back, holiday preparations, more time with extended family.
  2. We tend to eat more sugar during this time of year with all the holiday treats, which doesn't do our immune system any favors.

In any event, while you can definitely get the flu or a cold any time of year, there's no question that they spike this time of year – so what can we do about it?

While you can definitely get the flu or a cold any time of year, there's no question that they spike this time of year - so what can we do about it? Here's my favorite herbal cold and flu season tea along with some other health tips for the months ahead.

Cold and Flu Season Tea

  • 1 tablespoon of grated ginger
  • 1 slice of lemon or orange
  • 1 teaspoon of rosehips
  • 1 teaspoon of raw honey

Steep herbs in boiling water for 10 minutes. Add raw honey just before drinking!
