Staying cool while pregnant in summer

I am just a couple of weeks away from my due date with Baby #2 and so this summer I am struggling with the heat even more than usual.

I won't lie: for a few weeks I was content to just stay inside with the air conditioner and refrigerated drinks to keep me comfortable, but I knew I wasn't getting enough exercise, and of course - that's no fair to Mercury! So I've been trying to get us outside to play more and keeping pretty cool while doing it.

Aside from drinking lots and lots of water, there are a few things that really help me with staying cool in the summer while pregnant:

Maxi dresses.

I stay the coolest when my skin is covered, but dresses are still thin and light enough to be much, much cooler than jeans and even most tee shirts! Plus, they are so pretty and there's something to be said for the simplicity of an all-in-one outfit. 🙂

Lots of fruit!

Snacking is a must for both kiddos and pregnant mamas, but a lot of snacks make me feel groggy, sluggish and hot! Fresh fruits and cuts of veggies are my favorite snacks lately.

Wise timing.

Our outside time is reserved for early morning and/or in the evening - morning is best, before it gets too hot! It's also a really nice start to the day. Avoiding those middle hours of the day when the sun is just overhead and super bright is key - besides, that's a great time for a nap, anyway. 😉

Fun hydration.

I love ice-cold water, but my main healthy-eating hurdle is POP. Unfortunately, besides the fact that it's just not good for us at all, it's not hydrating and all the sugar just makes me feel sluggish and more hot anyway. Having yummy, healthy drinks on hand has really helped! I'm especially loving lemonade and raspberry leaf tea sweetened with raw honey, as well as La Croix sparkling water.

I can't imagine being so pregnant in the heat. One of my kids was born in march and the other in June! I missed the heat both times! Good luck with your last couple of weeks and stay cool! 🙂

Fresh fruit is a great way to stay hydrated too! I remember eating about 3-4 peaches a day when I was pregnant with our little one.

I moved to the San Francisco bay area. Ha! It doesn't get very hot here and when it does, it's only for a few days.

Looking forward to seeing photos of that new baby! Much labor love & peace to you!

I just realized you may have had your baby by now. How are you doing??!

I actually love heat as long as the humidity isn't real high. I just go swimming as much as humanly possible and drink ice water! I'll have to try the peppermint spray though, that sounds like it would just feel really nice in general.
